New Delhi: To enhance passenger safety, the Indian Railways will install CCTV cameras in all train coaches and engines. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has approved the nationwide implementation following a successful trial in the Northern Railway zone.
Each coach will have four cameras, while engines will have six, positioned near doors and public areas. The cameras will be 360-degree, capable of operating even in the dark and at speeds of up to 100 km/h. Passenger privacy will be maintained, according to the Railways.
A total of 74,000 coaches and 15,000 engines across the country will be equipped. Video footage will be analyzed using AI technology to help prevent train-related crimes.
