NEW DELHI: In line with the Government of India’s vision of Digital India and enhancing Ease of Living, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has majorly upgraded its digital ecosystem. NHAI has introduced two major citizen-centric features on its official RajmargYatra Mobile App: fully digital ‘Local Passes’ and an AI-enabled ‘MargMitra’ Help Centre.
These new initiatives eliminate manual documentation at toll plazas and offer faster, conversational assistance for highway commuters across the country.
1. Digital Local Toll Passes: Unlimited Travel Without Visiting Plazas
The newly introduced ‘Local Pass’ feature allows eligible residents to purchase monthly local passes digitally through the RajmargYatra app without physically visiting a toll plaza or submitting paper documents.
- Pilot Launch: The first digital local pass facility has been launched at the Mundka–Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) in Delhi. It will roll out across other toll plazas nationwide in phases.
- Eligibility & Benefits: Residents living within a 20 km radius of an eligible toll plaza can buy the pass for unlimited travel through that specific plaza during the month.
- Instant Digital Check: The app uses consent-based integrations with DigiLocker (for address verification), VAHAN (for vehicle details), linked FASTag, and GIS-based location mapping to confirm residency within minutes.
2. ‘MargMitra’ Help Centre: Single-Window Support in 22 Languages
To make commuter assistance smarter and more efficient, NHAI has integrated ‘MargMitra’, an intelligent conversational support platform inside the RajmargYatra App.
- 22 Indian Languages Supported: Users can type or speak their queries in any of the 22 scheduled Indian languages.
- Instant FASTag & Pass Assistance: Resolves queries related to FASTag recharge, KYC updates, refund statuses, and pass activations instantly.
- Grievance Redressal & Real-Time Tracking: Complaints are automatically routed to the concerned departments. Users can track ticket status in real-time or file an appeal if unsatisfied with the resolution.
- Highway Safety & E-Notices: Commuters can check FASTag blacklisting status, view pending e-notices, and report highway safety hazards such as stalled vehicles, accidents, or illegal encroachments.
A Growing Digital Ecosystem: Over 80 Lakh Annual Passes Sold
This digital upgrade builds upon the massive success of the RajmargYatra app’s existing services. Over 80 lakh Annual Passes have already been purchased through the app with real-time activation, reflecting high user adoption and trust.
