Kochi: In a major development that is set to rock the Malayalam film industry, the Ernakulam Magistrate Court has directed the police to register a case against popular actor Tini Tom. The court order comes on a petition filed by actress and former Joint Secretary of AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists), Ansiba Hassan, alleging personal defamation and communal slurs.
Court Rejects Police Report to Order Investigation
Earlier, the Kadavanthra Police had conducted a preliminary inquiry and recorded statements from both Ansiba Hassan and Tini Tom. However, the police submitted a report to the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) stating that there was insufficient evidence to proceed legally.
The police report claimed that Ansiba’s allegations were “hearsay” and lacked concrete backing. Refusing to accept the police’s evaluation, Ansiba approached the Ernakulam Magistrate Court, which subsequently rejected the police report and ordered a formal case to be registered against Tini Tom.
Serious Allegations: Defamation and Communal Slurs
According to the official complaint, Ansiba Hassan accused Tini Tom of targeting her with severe personal abuse. The key allegations in her petition state that Tini Tom:
- Formally defamed her character.
- Called her a “Jihadi.”
- Falsely accused her of involvement in religious conversions.
Ansiba had initially submitted the complaint directly to the Chief Minister of Kerala, which was later forwarded to the Director General of Police (DGP) and subsequently handed over to the Kochi ACP for a detailed probe.
What’s Next for the Mollywood Controversy?
With the court intervening and overruling the police department’s initial assessment, the legal trouble for Tini Tom is expected to intensify in the coming days. This high-profile dispute marks another turbulent chapter in the internal rifts within the Malayalam cinema industry and its premier actors’ association.
