Thiruvananthapuram: The first edition of the CERA BIG Malayalam Music Awards , an initiative of 92.7 BIG FM Radio was held at Al Saj Convention Centre here on Saturday. The awards were instituted to salute the legends of Malayalam music field and to encourage the next generation.
The nightingale of Kerala, K.S. Chitra was honoured for completing three decades in playback singing and she also won the best female singer of the year award for her songs "Ilaveyil Viralukal" from "Artist" and "Ponnodu Poovayi" from "Thalsamayam Oru Penkutty".
Vijay Yesudas, son of Ganagandharvan K.J.Yesudas, won the best male singer award for the song "Mazha kondu mathram" from "Spirit".
The song "Nilaamalare", from "Diamond Necklace", won the best melody award. M.Jayachandran won the best music composer award ( Kalimannu and Celluloid).
