As usual this year’s vishu too falls on April 15. It is an important harvest festival of Kerala celebrated in the month of "Medam" . The first sight on Vishu day that is Vishu Kani has much importance. Then Vishu Kaineetam, Vishu Kanji , sadhya and Vishu paadakkom are important.
Vishukani "Vishukkani" means "that which is seen first on Vishu". The Vishukkani consists of a ritual arrangement of auspicious articles in front of a idol or picture of Lord Krishna and lit lamp. Raw rice, coconut, golden cucumber (Kani vellari), fruits, vegetables, Betel leaves, Kani konna flower, mirror(valkannadi), new cloth (kasavumundu), gold and silver coins are important for making vishu kani.
