7.6 magnitude of earthquake Hits in Carribean Sea; Tsunami Warning

Mexico: A tsunami warning in the Central American country, Honduras, after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck off the Caribbean Sea.

The US Geological Survey reported the earthquake. More details are unavailable.

The earthquake struck between North America and the Caribbean interior. The epicenter is about 140 km long and 20 kilometers wide. Honduras President Juan Orlando Hernandez announced on Twitter that people need to be calm and the emergency rescue operation has begun.

People in the country and the islands of the Caribbean coast are alarmed. Some climatic zones have suggested that the tsunami is unlikely. The authorities have been advised to move people to a higher area.

In 1976, the largest earthquake that occurred in the region worst affected and caused major damage. More than 23,000 people were killed in the 7.5-magnitude earthquake in Guatemala. A 7.3-magnitude earthquake measuring in 2009 killed seven and 40 people were reportedly injured. About 130 buildings were destroyed.
