Chennai: Noted Malayalam music composer Reghu Kumar passed away. He was 60. He breathed his last around 2.00 am at a private hospital here. His physical remains will be cremated at VasanthaVihar cemetery on Friday.

Reghukumar was born into a prominent family at Kozhikode on 13 July 1953. He started learning Indian classical music at an early age under the tutelage of Guru G.S.Sreekrishnan. He was an exponent in tabla, trained under the guidance of Guru Balasubramaniam.

Reghu Kumar debuted on stage as an accompanying artist for eminent musicians when he was only 15. He started his career with All India Radio at the age of 16. Reghu Kumar made an entry into the film Music as the assistant of eminent music composer R. K. Shekhar. He made his debut as an independent music composer with the film Visham in 1981. He had tuned songs for around 30 films including Onnanam Kunnil Oradi Kunnil, Aram Aram Kinnaram,Ponthooval,Onnum Mindatha Barya,Nadhi Muthal Nadhi Vare, Veendum Liza, Mayamayooram, Shyama, Boeing Boeing, Thalavattom etc. Collector was the last film for which he composed music. Most of his works were bigger hits in 1980s. He is survived by wife Bhavani.
