NIA and UP Police Seized 100 Crores of Demonetized Currencies from UP

Kanpur: In a joint raid conducted by NIA and Uttar Pradesh police, seized 100 crores of demonetized currencies in UP, reports said. 

 This is the first time the police seizing this much of such banned notes.

The raid was based secret information. The currency was owned by four individuals or companies, said a NIA official. The investigating agency suspects that these currencies are meant to convert legal money through illegal way, reports added.

The police have recovered demonetized notes worth about Rs 100 crore from an under-construction house in Kanpur in one of the biggest hauls since old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 banknotes were banned in November 2016.
