Atal Bihari Vajpayee Passed away; foreign leaders are expected to attend the funeral

New Delhi: Former Prime Minister of India and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, passed away. He was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences for the past nine weeks and died at 5.05 pm on Thursday, hospital sources said.

"His is in critical condition in the last 36 hours, and we lost him to the end of every effort by the doctors," said the hospital.

Born on December 25, 1924 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, Vajpayee became the Prime Minister of India three times. He was India's 10th Prime Minister.

Several foreign leaders are expected to attend the Vajpayee's funeral and to make him a last salute. Representatives from neighboring countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bhutan will attend the funeral.
