Lucknow: With a partnership of 90-105 seats in Uttar Pradesh poll Samajwadi Party and Congress are moving closer to a poll pact in the contest, reports said.
The prospect of an alliance brightened with Akhilesh gaining the upper hand in the Yadav family war.
According to reports, the UP CM Akhilesh will meet Rahul Gandhi on January 9.
The meeting gains urgency, with seven-phase polls being announced. Akhilesh has spoken to Priyanka and the meeting will take place soon after Rahul returns from his overseas trip over the weekend.
The disputes over the Samajwadi party are not resolved yet. The alliance will, Congress and SP members hope, reassure voters that the regional party's core Yadav-Muslim combination is intact.
The SP-Congress combine is expected to bring about a greater consolidation of Muslim voters that should boost the allies in terms of countering Mayawati's BSP which has made an aggressive pitch to the minority community.
Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday appointed party heads in seven more districts, reports added.
Meanwhile Mulayam Singh Yadav reached Delhi along with Shivpal Singh Yadav to meet Amar Singh.
Akhilesh camp has claimed to have secured signed affidavits of over 200 MLAs and MLCs, sources said.
The BSP announced the candidates for the 200 seats yesterday.
In SP the election campaign is in trouble due to the disputes over father and son in the name of party symbol.
