Ecuador Vice President has been sentenced to six years of imprisonment in a corruption case. Jorge Glas, received bribes from the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht in return for handing state contracts to the scandal-ridden firm, reports said.

Jorge Glas was in the police custody after his suspension over the allegation, on October. The relative Ricardo Rivera with four others also found guilty in the case. They also have been awarded imprisonment for six years in this case.

The company, which has admitted to paying bribes to win contracts in a number of countries, has paid $3.5bn in settlements in the United States, Brazil and Switzerland.

According to reports his trial before Ecuador's Supreme Court started last month and he was sentenced today.
