Yea, it’s Thituvonam today….The day to celebrate and share. In the memory of our great Emperor Mahabali, we celebrates onam in every
year on Thiruvonam star in the month of Chingam (shravanam). Let’s forget all worries and just enjoy the goodness of Onam….We wish a very
happy onam for our readers.
Onasadhya, the vegetarian feast served in green plantain leaves , is the highlight of Onam. Years back Onasadhya was not grand as today’s.
In 50’s Onasadhya included only eight to nine items in total. Now, Sadhya includes at least 15 items from salt to Payasam.
Onasadhya should be served in the right way. The tampering end of the plantain leaf should be to the left of the seated person.Dishes should
be served clockwise from the bottom left . Rice should be served in the lower half of the leaf.
In Southern Kerala sadhya is purely vegetarian, but in north they serves non-veg dishes in the plantain leaf. Kurukkukalan is a must for
northern Keralites. Any way enjoy the traditional feast.
